A beautiful island on the East coast of Africa, in the Indian Ocean, which had the warmest waters I have every experienced.I stayed on the East coast, the beaches were the best I have ever been on. Very soft, fine white sand beaches that go on for miles and miles, flat to walk on and hardly anyone on them at all. An absolutely wonderful place to get away.
I stayed in a little beach hotel, only 25 rooms, very basic and rustic which suited me perfectly. There are much fancier places to stay, on the north of the island and also near the main city of Stone Town, 5* hotels.
Stone Town is the main city, known for centuries for it’s Spice markets, and a century or so ago for the slave markets. I had a guide that took be around and told me about the history, which was fascinating. Another reason I went to Zanzibar is to see where Freddie Mercury was born and lived for the first years of his life.
I would definitely recommend Zanzibar if you are in the area.
